TIM LANDERS

BACKGROUND

Tim Landers

Tim Landers was born in Dublin but his family moved to Tralee when he was 14. It was there he went to school and college culminating in gaining a National Certificate in Business Studies in 1987 which led to a job with Bank of Ireland in Galway.

Whilst in Galway, Tim got bitten by the theatrical bug when a friend introduced him to the world of amateur musicals. He instantly became hooked when he appeared in his first musical '7 Brides for 7 Brothers'. Eventually, after appearing in numerous shows, he graduated to directing in the late 90’s and set up his own theatre company ‘Spotlight Theatre Company'. He directed the company’s first production, ‘Educating Rita in late 1997 and was assistant director for their second production, 'Little Shop of Horrors'.

Realising that the Creative Arts were now his calling he took the plunge a few years later, finally leaving the bank in March 2002, and moved to Dublin to become a full-time actor.

Due to family bereavements he returned home to Tralee in 2004. After being asked by a number of local stage schools to teach acting classes for them, he founded his own stage school in 2007, the ‘Tim Landers School for Performing Arts. Writing for his students soon became a passion of his, culminating in 2 full scale pantomimes, “Cinderella” and “Aladdin”, written specifically for the students. That desire for creativity continued into 2017 when, after disbanding the stage school Tim founded the ‘Act Up Drama Group’ in Tralee.
